No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player in the world by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning one. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative comments from others kill his dream of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.

Phil started playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal passion for poker. He says that he is learning every day and is quite humble about his success. Phil admits to making errors every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
